Composition for Artists
| 18 hours | Fee: $250.00 |
| Two day intensive workshop. | 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. |
Many artists have difficulty with composition. This intensive two-day workshop addresses traditional compositional issues faced when composing environmental drawings by combining lectures, presentations, and demonstrations with selected exercises and hands-on drawing. Using landscape composition as a starting point, students learn to compose pictures with application to several areas in studio art and illustration. These areas include landscape painting, composing for film and animation, and composing for children’s books or graphic novels. Examples of all are presented and explained in detail. Students are taught through several short exercises to direct the eye, create depth, establish mood and time of day, and organize values to best present the composition. Students then do a composition under the direction of the instructor. Provided materials and guidelines enable students to continue learning after the workshop.
To sign up for this workshop, please contact Perrin Coman at the Carlesbad Art Farm in Carlesbad CA.
Sketching at Disneyland
| Fee: $90.00 | One day weekend workshop. |
Sketching at Disneyland is fun and enormously valuable for students interested in animation or theme park design. The Disneyland theme park was originally designed by Walt Disney’s feature animation artists, and contains many hidden design elements critical to the planning of animated films. We use the park as a classroom for the study of environments, scenic design, prop design, signage and character design as well as an opportunity to develop sketching & compositional skills.
The seminar program is six hours, but students stay as long as they want to sketch and enjoy the rides. Students may bring one non-student guest to the seminar for the $90.00 fee. Students are responsible for park fees. Bring appropriate clothing for outdoor locations. Handouts and materials lists are provided.
